The theme for Banned Books Week 2022 is “Books Unite Us. Censorship Divides Us.”
According to the American Library Association, “Banned Books Week celebrates the freedom to read and spotlights current and historical attempts to censor books in libraries and schools. For 40 years, the annual event has brought together the entire book community — librarians, booksellers, publishers, journalists, teachers, and readers of all types — in shared support of the freedom to seek and to express ideas, even those some consider unorthodox or unpopular. The books featured during Banned Books Week have all been targeted for removal or restriction in libraries and schools. By focusing on efforts across the country to remove or restrict access to books, Banned Books Week draws national attention to the harms of censorship”.
Here are the “Top 10 Most Challenged Books by Year.”
Century College Community - celebrate your freedom to read with us!
Visit the library this week to learn who bans the books, where and why they ban them. Take a minute to see if any of your favorites have been banned. We will have swag, treats, button-making, and drawings for t-shirts, mugs, water bottles, and more.

National Library Week April 4-8, Connect with your Library!
Let’s get ready to celebrate National Library Week. Century College Library encourages all community members to visit their library in person or online to explore and access services and programs. Century College Library offers a wide array of resources and classes that are available in person or from the comfort of home.
National Library Week is a time to highlight the essential role libraries, librarians and library workers play in transforming lives and strengthening communities. The theme for this year’s National Library Week is “Connect with Your Library,” which promotes the idea that libraries are places to get connected to technology by using broadband, computers, and other resources. Libraries also offer opportunities to connect with media, programs, ideas and classes, in addition to books. Most importantly, libraries also connect communities to each other.
Show us your support by following us on Facebook, Twitter, download the Century College App, and join us throughout the week for fun events. We will have book scavenger hunt, button-making, and will have little giveaways for you to enjoy!
Here is our current Spring Semester hours for the Library & East Campus Student Computer Center.
We look forward to serving you in 2022!
