AAUW Northeast Metro Branch Nancy Jo Hendrickson Legacy
AAUW (American Association of University Women) is an organization that has promoted higher education for women since 1881. The AAUW Northeast Metro Branch Nancy Jo Hendrickson Legacy Scholarship honors a member whose lifelong interest was in furthering education and opportunities for girls and women. To encourage a student to transfer to a four-year institution upon completion of a two-year degree program at Century College.

Abby was a remarkable young woman who made a difference in the lives of others. She battled health issues but found joy in helping others. A graduate of White Bear Lake Area High School, she continued to college even though she faced barriers. In her brief life, she touched and enriched many lives. Her family and friends support this scholarship to honor her life and empower others to carry on her legacy of helping. It is the hope that this scholarship will enable others to follow her example.

The Alumni Legacy Scholarship was established in 2009 by the Alumni Association Board of Directors to attract students who, through family and relationships, have strong connections to the college and who will likely contribute to the development of the college’s relationship with its alumni long-term.

Andrew S. Nesset Memorial Scholarship
To support currently enrolled students who have demonstrated aptitude and a strong desire to continue their education at Century but are challenged by life’s circumstances or lack the resources necessary to access higher education.
Andrew S. Nesset worked for over 20 years at Century College, starting as an adjunct faculty member in the English Department and eventually becoming an academic dean. Andrew became known as an invaluable, dependable, and constantly encouraging resource.

Chris P. Boosalis O&P
To provide a scholarship to support the educational goals of O&P students who are seeking a Century degree. Chris P. Boosalis is a Century alum and has dedicated his career to serving people with limb loss in the Twin Cities since 1986. In 2003, he formed his own company, and eventually, his company joined Twin Cities Orthopedics. “It is easy to get excited about stories of amputees climbing mountains and winning races, but you have to walk before you can run. My hope is for future prosthetists and orthotics to put the patients first and let the business take care of itself.”

To help reduce educational expenses for a student enrolled in Century College’s nursing program. This scholarship remains with the applicant while the student is in good standing in the Associate of Science in Nursing Program at Century College. In memory of the Kohlers.

Dr. Karl Gerber Leadership & Service
Dr. Karl Gerber became president of Lakewood Community College in 1968 and completed his service in 1985. He provided the needed leadership to move the new, fledgling college into a highly regarded educational institution. This scholarship pays tribute to the history of Lakewood Community College and the effective leadership of Dr. Carl Gerber.

To honor Gladys Dickey, a lifelong educator, by encouraging students to enter the field of education. Gladys Dickey was born in Iowa in 1888 and began her lifelong career as an elementary school teacher in 1912. She loved children and children’s literature - her enthusiasm for the stories of early American history was contagious. She touched so many lives and enriched them all, not only of her pupils but of her nephews and nieces, who hope that this scholarship will enable others to follow her example.

To encourage and support a student at Century College who has dealt with mental health and/or substance abuse problems or issues. Jenna grew up in White Bear Lake, MN, and graduated from WBLHS. She was creative, with a sense of humor, while being adventurous. Her interests included reading, writing, animals, and nature. The scholarship is sponsored by her family, who remember her for her spirit, courage, and love of life.

Jiang Chendao Memorial
Established by Yanmei Jiang and her family (husband Rongqing and children Zhen & Timothy Tu) in honor of her father, 蒋辰道, Jiang Chendao, a staunch believer in learning. He lived daily to its fullest, tirelessly pushing himself to “become a good person” through reading, reflection, and caring for others. An aficionado of Chinese classics, calligraphy, and gardening, he touched the lives of his children and grandchildren, who will never forget the cadence of his baritone voice when instilling daily life lessons.

To encourage and support the educational goals of aspiring teachers. Dr. Larry Litecky served as president of Century College from 2000-2011.
Under his leadership, the campus experienced dynamic growth and change. New initiatives to support student success resulted in Century College becoming the first college in Minnesota selected for the national Achieving the Dream program. Dr. Litecky believed in the power of Century’s teachers. This scholarship supports the educational goals of those aspiring to teach at the postsecondary level.

Rose Polga Bayuk Nursing
Rose was from the Mesabi Iron Range in northern Minnesota and graduated from the Kahler Hospital (now Mayo Clinic) School of Nursing as an RN in 1938. During WW2, Rose served overseas from 1942 to 1946 as a 1st Lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corps. She was a ward charge nurse on U.S. Army Hospital Ship Thistle. In 1954, she moved with her husband to White Bear Lake, where he was the City Manager. Rose’s nursing career culminated with a position as an RN/Nursing Home Administrator in North St.
Paul. She served on a nursing advisory board at Lakewood in the late 1970s and had a lifelong interest in furthering educational opportunities for students to study nursing.
Rose had very strong leadership and organizational skills. Her motto in nursing and in life was “I serve others before I serve myself.” In June 2021, Rose was awarded the Silver Service Award Medallion by the National
WW2 Museum. She was the first nurse to receive this prestigious national award. Rose lived to be 105 years of age and was always physically active and engaged with people.
