About the Program

Information systems are revolutionizing our world. Robots, artificial intelligence, augmented reality, and the internet of things are just a few of the many technologies changing how we live and work. Computer Science and Computer Information Systems are the fields that study these information systems. The Computer Science Department offers degrees in these fields. Students learn how they work, how to create them, and how to use them. Students are first given a broad foundation of conceptual knowledge. Because of this broad educational foundation, graduates can go into many different specialties. Students with a 4-year degree can pursue careers in Software Engineering, Database Administration, Cybersecurity, Data Analytics, Cloud Computing, Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, and many others. And because information systems are used everywhere, graduates can also work in many different types and sizes of organizations ranging from large corporations and government agencies to small businesses and manufacturing. At Century, the CSCI Department focuses strongly on preparing students to transfer to 4-year institutions and Century has excellent transfer agreements with all the major public universities and programs in Minnesota. However, students also receive substantial practical skills and in a good job market, students can seek immediate employment. Computer Science Transfer Pathway AS Degree

The Computer Science Transfer Pathway AS degree offers students a powerful option: the opportunity to complete an associate degree whose course credits will directly transfer to designated Computer Science bachelor’s degree programs at Minnesota State universities. The entire curriculum has been carefully designed so that you can complete a specific associate degree at a Minnesota State college and transfer to a Minnesota State university to earn a bachelor’s degree. Transfer Pathways can be a great resource for saving time and money as you work toward graduation.

Minnesota State universities include Bemidji State University; Metropolitan State University; Minnesota State University, Mankato; Minnesota State University Moorhead; Southwest Minnesota State University; St. Cloud State University; and Winona State University.

Transfer Pathway degrees may transfer to colleges and universities outside of the Minnesota State system, such as private and out-of-state schools. It is highly recommended that students interested in this possibility contact their intended transfer school, advisor/counselor, and program instructors for academic planning assistance.

    Financial Aid

    Century College is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, and our programs qualify for financial aid including grants, loans, and college work-study.     Program Faculty

  • Experience: Taddese Erba has 3 years of experience as high school physics and math teacher. He has a 1.5 year experience as Graduate assistant as and 1 year of experience as computer science teacher.
    Teaching Approach: I prefer a student-centered approach to teaching. I believe that students can learn independently with enough systematic intervention to provide them with the necessary guidance.
    Education: Bachelor’s degree in physics from Addis Ababa University. Master’s degree in computer science from Saint Cloud State University.
