About Our POP Program

Our Prosthetic, Orthotic, and Pedorthic (POP) programs prepare students for careers including O&P Technician, Orthotic Fitter, O&P Assistant, and Pedorthist.

Our POP Diploma and AAS degree programs provide foundational knowledge and hands-on skills in prosthetics, orthotics, and pedorthics. Coursework includes: introductory clinical care, anatomy and physiology related to amputation and mobility impairment, medical terminology, biomechanics, POP design/fabrication, materials science, laboratory management and safety.

Diploma graduates may pursue entry-level, pre-certification employment as prosthetic/orthotic technicians and/or orthotic fitters, and may continue into the Prosthetic, Orthotic, and Pedorthic Allied Healthcare AAS (POP AAS). The AAS ladders into the Orthotic and Prosthetic Clinical Applications (OPCA) Advanced Certificate.

Graduates who complete the OPCA Advanced Certificate may pursue entry-level, pre-certification employment as Orthotic/Prosthetic Assistants and Pedorthists. Students may also continue, through our partnership with Concordia University, St. Paul, into the BSOP/MSOP pathway to become O&P practitioners. Tuition differential applies.

Note: Completing this POP/OPCA program provides the educational standards required for entry-level positions in related POP career pathways. Depending on the student’s chosen career pathway, additional supervised work experience or other requirements may still be needed. Students should review current certification requirements with the American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics & Pedorthics (ABC).
