Access Center Accommodations

Students who have a disability must self-disclose the nature of their disability and initiate registration with Access Services. Disclosing a disability is voluntary. Due to data privacy laws, we cannot ask a student to share disability-related information.

The Access Center team is excited to meet with each student to create a personalized plan that ensures everyone has equal access. We know that each student has their own unique circumstances, so we work on accommodations individually. To help get you started, we’ve also included some commonly used accommodations for your reference. We’re here to support you!

Students may experience situational/ temporary disabilities that require accommodations to fully participate in academic programs/ activities.

Although these conditions are not chronic or permanent, they can significantly impact a student’s ability to participate fully in class. To request temporary accommodations, students should register with the Access Center and submit a Student Intake Application.

Intake Application

Examples of conditions that may necessitate temporary accommodations include, but are not limited to:

• Broken limbs
• Hand injuries (preventing ability to write or type)
• Short-term impairments due to surgery or accidents (including concussions)

Access Center staff follow up with students who have temporary accommodations to monitor their recovery. If a temporary condition continues to have lasting effects, further consultation with Access Center staff is recommended.

By law, accommodations cannot fundamentally alter a program or compromise academic integrity. They cannot lower a course’s academic standards or difficulty. Also, they cannot remove what students need to learn as stated in the syllabus or program guidelines. Accommodations should not change the core skills and knowledge required to complete the course or program. Instead, we look for alternative accommodations that keep the essence of the course or program unchanged.

The Health Science Reasoning Testing (HSRT) is an online, multiple-choice test, required for students applying to Century’s Nursing Program. We provide accommodations for students who are new to the Access Center and seeking accommodations for the test. If you are already registered with the Access Center and taking the HSRT, please email access.center@century.edu or call us 651-304-2190.

Please follow the process below:

• Meet with Access Center staff to determine your accommodation eligibility for the HSRT test. Plan to do this well in advance of your test. Email access.center@century.edu to schedule an appointment.
• Students requesting reasonable accommodations for the HSRT must start with self-disclosure of a disability, then through an interactive process with Access Staff, determination is assessed with supporting documentation if needed, etc.

Examples of documentation include:

• Recommendations of qualified professionals
• Proof of past testing accommodations
• Professional Evaluation
• IEP or 504 plan
